The total story spans the "reality test" of fifty years of personal business experience and includes the wisdom, advice, insights, inspirations, dedication and contributions of many people. The company is structured to continue on into the future with the support of family and a staff of dedicated people.
The business was first structured to provide the very finest canine and feline foods. The very best industry nutritionists, consultants, manufacturers, suppliers and veterinary talents and experiences were utilized in identifying the quality ingredients and manufacturing processes. This combination was used to carefully formulate the finest products available that would sincerely contribute to the health and quality lifestyle of our family companions. When this goal was realized, the product was manufactured and delivered to the Riverside warehouse on Columbus Day, October 12, 1993. A fitting date for our exciting business "voyage" into the future.

The major shift evolved from people shopping at home to make things easier, to relieve time stress and unwanted elements in their lives. A program was structured to keep things simple and provide services and products that reduce the complexity for the consumer. PRODUCTION
As a small company, Flint River Ranch must first determine if a pet food product can be produced with QUALITY ingredients, and whether it will offer consumers good value, while keeping the price within the market. Other considerations are whether the product is within the scope of Flint River Ranch's production facilities and capability, and whether the right ingredients can be purchased from certified suppliers. Because of the nutritional value of Oven-Baking, it is important that any new pet food product cook well in the ovens.
The Flint River Ranch production staff then meet with nutritionists, consultants and veterinarians for development of the pet food formula. Once a formula is developed, Flint River Ranch production does several test runs to make sure of the blending and the equipment.
In addition to in-house evaluation, production samples of the pet food are provided to an outside independent testing laboratory for mineral and vitamin assay and analysis. The laboratory certifies information for regulatory agencies and labeling requirements. Flint River Ranch's guidelines ALWAYS exceed AAFCO profile requirements!
Flint River Ranch has a control group of animals, comprising a variety of ages, lifestyles and breeds - along with individual professionals who have pets providing in-home feeding tests. Other dog food field tests are handled by a veterinarian that reports results under professional supervision. This process can take 3-4 months. Whenever adjustments are made in the formula, the entire process starts over for another 4-6 months. It can take about one year to bring a new pet food product to the market.
